Who can use this feature?

All members with the LinkrUI plugin

Available on Multi-Department plans and above.

Mediagraph can be integrated with Adobe Creative Cloud apps using LinkrUI, a connector plugin by Santa Cruz Software. LinkrUI allows you to search, filter, access, and view the metadata of all the assets in your Mediagraph account directly in your Adobe software. Save time by finding what you need, adding it directly to Adobe, and updating it in Mediagraph without ever having to download a copy.

LinkrUI for Adobe Creative Cloud works with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. A Premium license can be purchased to use it with Premiere Pro, and After Effects. Contact us for more information.

If you haven't already, take a look at our help documentation to learn how to Set up LinkrUI with Adobe Creative Cloud.

Getting Started with LinkrUI

Basic Navigation

LinkrCC1.png

Navigating the LinkrUI picker window is very similar to navigating the Mediagraph Workspace. By default, LinkrUI will show a Thumbnail Grid view, showing the segments of your Mediagraph account at the top: the File Vault (for Admins and Content Managers only), Libraries and the My Projects panel.

Select one to navigate through the Folder or Collection tree. Once you have opened a Container, all the assets inside it or any contained subfolder will be displayed. You can change the picker to List view to browse it as a tree.

Note: LinkrUI automatically filters out files supported by Creative Cloud applications other than the one you are currently in. This means that, for example, .psd files will not be shown if the plugin is open in InDesign.

View Asset Details

Click the View Asset Details button in the bottom right corner to see a larger preview and the following metadata: Name, Type, Size, Dimensions, Created Time, Uploaded Time, Last Modified Time and any applied Keyword Tags.

Search, Sort and Filter

The LinkrUI Search bar is directly connected to the Mediagraph Search bar. All Mediagraph search fields, syntax and operators are valid in LinkrUI.

Asset Action Menu

After you’ve found the asset(s) you want to work with, open the Asset Action menu to see possible actions. For a new asset, there will be two options:

  • Open: This allows you to open a Mediagraph asset directly in the Adobe application.
  • Place: This allows you to place a Mediagraph asset into the Adobe document that is currently open.

When selecting an asset that is already open, or one that you have previously opened with LinkrUI, you will see up to three additional options:

  • Update: After you save changes to an asset that has been opened from Mediagraph, Update allows you to sync those changes to Mediagraph. Updates are saved as a new version.
  • Purge: This deletes any local copy of the asset that has been downloaded from Mediagraph. It does not affect any asset in Mediagraph.
  • Reset: This deletes any local copy of the asset and re-downloads the current version from Mediagraph.

Asset Status Icons

As you use LinkrUI, you can keep track of any changes made with the Asset Status icons in the corner of each thumbnail. There are five possible Asset Statuses, identifiable by their different icons:

LinkrCC5.png
  • Cloud: This means that the file is in Mediagraph only.
  • Cloud Error: This means that a problem occurred when opening or placing the asset. This can be due to a permissions issue or a problem with the file itself.
  • Checkmark: This means that the file has been opened locally, and is stored on your computer. When you open a file, a local copy is stored in the LinkrUI folder.
  • Conflict: This appears when there is a conflict between the local version of an asset and the version in Mediagraph. This occurs when the file has been modified in one place and no longer matches the file in the other. Hover over the icon to learn where the file was changed and what type of conflict has occurred. To solve the conflict, read below.
  • In Progress: The blue progress circle is displayed when one of the five Asset Actions is in progress.

Conflicting Files

If there is a Conflict between the local and Mediagraph versions of the file, you will see the Conflict icon in the thumbnail, and a warning icon on the Document Status button at the bottom of the LinkrUI window. Hover over either one to learn what the Conflict is. One of the versions must be changed to solve the Conflict. Four options are available by clicking the Document Status button:

  • LinkrCC6.png Upload: This will prompt you to upload the file currently open as a new asset to Mediagraph.
  • Update: This will update the file in Mediagraph, saving any changes you have made as a new version of the asset. The previous version will be available in the Asset Detail View (in Mediagraph and LinkrUI)
  • Reset: This will delete the local copy of the file from your computer and download the most recent version of the file from Mediagraph. This will reset any changes you may have made locally.
  • Purge: This will remove the local copy of the file from your computer. It will not affect the copy in Mediagraph.

Pro Tip: You can also drag and drop an asset from LinkrUI directly into an open document to place it.

Upload a file to Mediagraph

Pro Tip: When you upload a file to Mediagraph with LinkrUI, you will be given the option to Move to LinkrUI folder. This will copy the file to the LinkrUI folder on your computer, which will let it continue to track changes and manage the file. The original copy will not be affected. Select this option if you will continue to work on the file with LinkrUI and Mediagraph.

  1. Save your file before proceeding.
  2. Click the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner.
  3. Click Upload New Asset.
  4. Make sure the right destination folder has been selected and make any necessary changes to the metadata. Choose whether you want to Move to LinkrUI folder here.
  5. Click Upload. You can consult upload progress at any time by clicking Uploads in the hamburger menu.

Update a file in Mediagraph

When changes have been made to a file locally, and LinkrUI identifies a conflict between the local and Mediagraph copies, you can send an updated version of the file back to Mediagraph. This is only possible if the file has previously been opened via LinkrUI. The update is non-destructive, and will come in as a new version. Previous versions are available in the Asset Detail View (in Mediagraph and LinkrUI).

  1. Save your file before proceeding.
  2. Navigate to the file in the LinkrUI picker window.
  3. Click the three dots in the thumbnail, or click the Document Status icon, to open the Asset Action menu.
  4. Click Update.

Use an optimization request workflow

Mediagraph’s optimization request tag can be combined with LinkrUI to build a simple workflow directly incorporating your Adobe Creative Cloud apps. This is a great way to simplify editing and enhancement in Photoshop, among other processes. Optimization can be requested in Mediagraph, and all outstanding optimization requests can be seen in LinkrUI. Once the desired updates have been made, send a new version back to Mediagraph without leaving Adobe.

Submit an optimization request

  1. In your Mediagraph library, open the action menu for any asset(s) you want to submit for optimization. Do this by right-clicking an asset, or by selecting all assets you want to submit and hovering over the gray sprocket icon.
  2. Hover over Request Optimization.
  3. Click Request. All selected asset(s) will be flagged with an optimization request.
LinkrCC11.png

Find optimization requests in LinkrUI

  1. Click the Filter icon in the top right corner of the LinkrUI picker window.
  2. Open Metadata.
  3. Open Optimization Request.
  4. Select Requested.
  5. Click Show results. LinkrUI will display all pending optimization requests.
  6. Double click any file’s thumbnail to open.
  7. After you’ve made changes, click the three dots in the thumbnail or the Document Status icon, to open the Asset Action menu.
  8. Click Update. The updated file will be saved as a new version.
LinkrCC12.png
